It should become clear that the primary objective for this competition project is to create increased
awareness, not just among children but across entire populations of both young and old. In addition to
the motivations described above, the ARCHIVE Institute (because of its own mission) has situated the
competition around the central themes of HOME, HOUSING & COMMUNITY. Submissions that describe
the relationship which one or all of these terms bear on the spread/control of HIV/AIDS is central to the
institute’s goal. This desired agenda is supported by evidence demonstrating the independent
significance of housing as a mechanism to improve the health of persons living with HIV and to prevent
new infections.5
The following provides a general outline of the competition announcement that will be made available
to the public.
The 2007 ARCHIVE Institute Poster Competition
The 2007 ARCHIVE Institute poster competition encourages artists under the age of 18 from
around the world to design and submit a poster that responds to the widespread AIDS epidemic
and its influence on our lives. We expect submissions as diverse as the impact of the virus on
individual and community lives. The competition launches during the summer of 2007 and
winning entries receive recognition in the in January 2008. The competition will result in an
online exhibit as well as a traveling exhibition of selected entries. From the choice of 6 regional
finalists, the selection committee will appoint three winners.
