The ARCHIVE Institute is an action-research center for examining relationships between architecture/planning and public health crises. A.R.C.H.I.V.E. is an acronym for Architectural Research Concerning Health, Infections and Various Epidemics. The organization is a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) public charity in the United States and maintains project directors in several locations including Germany, Jamaica, Singapore and South Africa. Action-research best describes the work of the institute as the work involves field based initiatives which are first conceptualized and interrogated in a theoretical/academic setting.
The institute which is currently headed by its founder Peter Williams has placed the pandemic of HIV/AIDS at the forefront of its work. In so doing, the organization has attracted a number of leading academics and practitioners who contribute effortlessly of their time. Among the many activities of the institute, projects such as design competitions and field construction build outs are an active part of their work. |
